2011 / 2012 Little Athletics Season
The Little Athletics year begins on 1st October 2011 and runs through to September 2012.
Athletes can register at any time during the season provided they are between the ages of 5 and 15. (Athletes must be 5 years of age to join).
Track & Field events are held between October and March whilst Cross Country events are held between April and August.
PLEASE NOTE: Parents or guardians are required to stay for the duration of the weekly programmes as they remain primarily responsible for the behaviour and welfare of their children.
The Registration Process
Athletes new to Little Athletics can register register two free Come and Try days. To do this, please see the Registrar at the Admin table early on any of the regular competition days during the season.
All paid registrations require both new and existing athletes to complete their details online via the Little Athletics Victoria (LAVic) website.
Note: Secure online payment of membership fees will be available via the LAVic link from 1st September 2011.
Existing athletes with a valid email address on record will receive an invitation to register from LAVic during the last week of August 2011. This email will include their username and password and steps to register online.
New members - Please attend one of the Registration Days where you will be given further information, options and further directions to enter membership details as required above.
Come and Try Days
If an athlete is NEW to LAWav, they are entitled to 2 Come and Try days before membership payment is due and a uniform is purchased. This gives the athlete an opportunity to try before they buy !
The Come and Try sessions do not need to be held on consecutive weeks.
Come and Try athletes will be required to fill in a form at the Centre with 'basic details' (for insurance purposes) prior to participating.
Upon deciding to fully register, you will be given further instructions by the 'Registrar' which will entail following "THE REGISTRATION PROCESS" (above) and providing your 'proof of age' to the Registrar as soon as possible.
Payment / Fees
Payments will be accepted 1) online
2) at the pre-season Registration Days at Central Reserve
3) during the weekly Saturday programs.
Cash or Cheque is preferred if paying 'in person'. Payments by Credit Card (Visa and MasterCard only) will incur a surcharge.
The Little Athletics season membership fee is $120 for the first child in a family (this also entitles the athlete to participate in the cross country season if desired).
Families who register more than 1 child receive a $10 discount for each subsequent child, that is, $110 for the 2nd child, $100 for the 3rd child and so on.
An "early bird" $10 discount applies to registrations received prior to the start of the season on the first Saturday in October, that is, $110 for the first child, $100 for the 2nd child, $90 for the 3rd child and so on.
NOTE: The membership fee includes an LAVic fee of $54, with our LAWav fee making up the balance.
The LAVic fee is NON-REFUNDABLE.
The LAWav fee component may only be refunded under extraordinary circumstances (and after being approved by the committee).
The membership fee for athletes who register from January 1st 2012 is $75.
Registrations for the Cross Country season ONLY are available for $60.
Proof of Age
LAVic requires that ALL NEW MEMBERS must provide proof of age to the Registrar. This may be in the form of a passport, birth certificate or child health record.
'Proof of age' must be shown prior to athletes competing, or forfeit all results up until such time as it is presented.
Uniform
Members are required to wear the LAWav uniform which includes a LAWav top (available as a t-shirt, singlet or crop top), priced at $35 and plain black shorts (available as 'normal', 'hipsters' or 'bike pants/leggings') priced at $22.
The club is offering existing members the opportunity to sell pre-loved LAWav tops (in good condition) at $10 and pre-loved spikes or sprint shoes (at a cost determined by the owner).
Pre-loved items may be left at Registration or competition days (at owner's risk) in a 'CLEAR BAG' (zip-lock) with an envelope included that lists the owner's name, contact details, product details and sale price.
The seller, at their discretion, may consider donating a 'handling fee' to LAWav for assisting with the sale of their pre-loved items.
Age Groups
To determine the age group that athletes will belong to during the 2011/2012 season, please use the Age Group Ready Reckoner below.
Parent Duty, Code of Behaviour and Privacy Agreement
LAWav is a non profit organisation that relies on the assistance of parents to operate. Therefore, ALL families who register athletes in the Little Athletics program are required to contribute to its operation.
To successfully operate the Little Athletics program on a weekly basis (which often involves over 300 athletes participating at one time) a minimum of 60 parents is required !
LAWav therefore asks that every registered family assists at least once per fortnight. Tasks may include measuring jumps or throws, raking the long jump pits, assisting age group leaders or recording results. Tasks are easy and assistance is provided to those who are new or are unsure.
In some extraordinary circumstances families may be unable to assist. In this instance, a $50 duty levy fee may be requested to be paid .... in lieu of completing duty.
By completing the Registration process, parents are also accepting the conditions stipulated in the LAWav Parent's Charter and the LAVic Privacy and Parent - Guardian Declaration Statement.
