13th Feb 2008 - New High Jump Record at Waverley!!!

Our High Jump coach Lindsay Harrison is really thrilled about the new High Jump SETUP record at Waverley.  The previous PB in setting up the HJ mats has been slashed from several minutes to less than 3 minutes now.  1, 2 or 500 kids, we are now ready to go for HJ in a flash – No sweat!

Just weeks prior to our 2007 Open Day, many of you would have witnessed two strange looking steel frames arriving on a Crane truck during our Saturday morning competition.  The Waverley Superman team was needed to carry these heavy frames across to their new resting place.

During the following week, a small dedicated team burnt the daylight savings hours to attach sides and a roof to what would quickly become our new HJ sheds. Finally, a "graffiti proof coating" was applied so that potential graffiti is easily and quickly removed.  The sheds were "solely funded by Waverley Little Athletics" and with that in mind, can we all make sure that we report any misuse, damage or vandalism to the appropriate people in charge.

A huge amount of work went on behind the scenes to turn the dream (for many previous committees) into reality.  This would not have been achieved without the help of the following people – A bit THANK YOU to all:

  • Lindsay Harrison - For the design and Manufacture of the entire structure

  • Darrin Stephens - For the extensive documentation and Engineering analysis submitted to council.  Without this, we would be still talking about it.

  • Roger Head - For the use of his business factory (BF Group in Dandenong) equipment, cranes and truck to build the framework over approx 6 weeks.

  • Paul Roberts - Monash Council (Sport and Recreation Officer) who steered us in the right direction "to achieve council approval".

  • Neil Garlick - For organising the galvanised steel and timber base for the main jumping mats.

  • And to all the committee members and parents that assisted in the move, attaching the colour bond sides and roofing

  • Lindsay look forward for new challenges with all that spare time he has now every week!!!

23rd Oct 2007 - Katherine Goff Sets new Waverley Centre Record in u11 70m

Katherine Goff 70m Record.jpg (83053 bytes)  The third of the records for the day went to Katherine Goff in the u11 70m.  Katherine has been "knocking at the door" for many records over the past couple of seasons, so this is certainly a well deserved one, and a nice "scalp" to have taken the record from too (Carolyn Dempsey....who had an outstanding Little aths career representing Victoria on numerous occasions)

    28th July 2007 - Walk Update - Lindsay Harrison

    LindsayWalkUpdate1.jpg (122443 bytes)

Whilst many of our kids are off playing other sports over the winter, these are only some of our "young guns" that have been "flying" at Albert Park on Saturday afternoons during the winter racing Walking season. Many of them also run at Cross Country on Saturday mornings, so they are certainly "up and about" and very active :-)

They have so far enjoyed a brilliant season and surprised themselves with excellent results and continue to better their PBs every week. The distances covered vary from 1km for the youngest all the way up to 5km some weeks for u15s. Of the junior walkers competing weekly, Waverley has the largest turn out of the 50+ enjoying the beautiful sunny winter arvos. Overall there are around 100 competing ranging in age from 6 to 80 years young ! And I can tell you, getting beaten by "more senior in age" men and women is something you have to get used to, as it's a "regular occurrence" !
