Cross Country Week 13 - Jells Park North ... delightful!

Print PDF

What a great venue Jells Park North is!  Many of us missed competing here earlier in the season as we were attending the Seaford Open Day.  Jells Park North provided a beautiful outlook across the fields to the lake, with the runners being relatively visible for the majority of the course.

Handicap Day was a new concept for many, especially for our younger athletes.  It added a different perspective to the races, giving the slower runners an opportunity to lead and the faster runners something to catch!  I noticed most runners started a lot quicker than usual, possible because there were not the crowds to contend with on the starting line … although this sometimes left them a little short of energy at the end!

Congratulations to all those who competed at Jells Park on handicap day.  Photos

Duty
Thank you to Tracey Kennedy and Peter Mackie (in disguise) who assisted with recording results and course marshalling at Jells Park.   Your assistance is most appreciated.

I will be away for the next 2 weeks of competition, weeks 14 and 15.  Peter Ziguras will be taking the Waverley flag along to the events during this time.  Please keep an eye on the website during this time for any relevant updates.

Week 16, July 18th, after the school holidays, is the final day of cross-country competition.  It will be held at Bellbird Dell (remember, hidden hills).  I will see you there!

Cheers and good luck!

Please refer to the table below that outlines duty over the remainder of the cross-country season.

If you are unable to make it to a duty session, it will be your responsibility to change your shift with another family.

We will cover 2 duties each week, 1 at the canteen, 1 at the finishing line.  On the day of your duty, after checking in with David on the loud speaker, please make your way to the finishing line where you will be given the task of either handing out place tokens, recording times or handing out time slips or to the canteen where you can assist with the BBQ or serving.  (You can work out with the other Waverley family rostered on the same day which duty you will undertake).

Your duty will last from 9.00 am until approximately 10.30 am (at the conclusion of the last race).

Those who complete duty will be the first to be considered favourably when organising duty at regionals and states.

Print PDF
Charlee and Jared TallentA big congratuations to Paige DeLisen who last weekend finished 6th in the u12g 2km Racewalking Australia Championships at Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.  Paige was also a member of the GOLD medal winning Victorian's - in the teams event - and she is still only u10 Wink.  Charlee Harrison also walked well to finish a credible 16th in a near PB walk in the u10 1km race.  Charlee is pictured with Jared Tallent who broke the course record on his way to winning the 20 mile Championship for the 4th time  Cool.  The weekend saw a record 297 entrants from across the country including WA !  In another notable performance, 19yo ex little athlete Jess Rothwell also walked to within 24sec of Kerry Saxby-Junna's 10 mile Championship record ...... and later said she would have pushed harder had she known she was "that close" !  For those that are unaware .... Kerry Saxby was the Australian "trailblazer of womans racewalking worldwide" and held many world records over her career during the 80's & 90's  Tongue out
