Sat 26th April 2008
Australian Little Athletics Championships 2008

The Victorian Team was successful by the barest of margins (2.5 points out of approx. 700) in winning the coveted Trevor Billingham Teams trophy for the second year in a row.  It was an outstanding team effort and a brilliant days competition by all.  The weather fortunately "held off" during the day just long enough for "a downpour of rain" during Presentations !

A big thanks to Matt & Ebony Sturgess, Darrin & Tammy Stephens and Prem for their assistance with transportation of the WA team and help with celebration dinner at the clubrooms.  Congratulations to WA  who won the Alan Triscott handicap trophy, so they were a very happy camp

3rd Apr 2008 - Have your say - ALA Survey

Clutch has recently been commissioned by The Board of Australian Little Athletics to conduct a review of Little Athletics programs in Australia. Specifically this review is in relation to our role as a youth and family sporting organisation and how we can address issues concerning family obesity, foundations for sporting initiatives with young people and the restoration of a family fun and fitness culture in Australia to address concerns about the levels of physical activity in the community that might be addressed through Little Athletics initiatives.

As part of this study ALA are engaging past, present and interested stakeholders of Little Athletics to provide their views on a range of health, sport and physical activity issues to ensure we address the views of everyone involved.

To participate ALA has established an on-line survey for you to complete. Simply click here to start the survey (should take about 5-10 minutes).

Just weeks prior to our 2007 Open Day, many of you would have witnessed two strange looking steel frames arriving on a Crane truck during our Saturday morning competition.  The Waverley Superman team was needed to carry these heavy frames across to their new resting place.

During the following week, a small dedicated team burnt the daylight savings hours to attach sides and a roof to what would quickly become our new HJ sheds. Finally, a "graffiti proof coating" was applied so that potential graffiti is easily and quickly removed.  The sheds were "solely funded by Waverley Little Athletics" and with that in mind, can we all make sure that we report any misuse, damage or vandalism to the appropriate people in charge.

A huge amount of work went on behind the scenes to turn the dream (for many previous committees) into reality.  This would not have been achieved without the help of the following people – A bit THANK YOU to all:

  • Lindsay Harrison - For the design and Manufacture of the entire structure

  • Darrin Stephens - For the extensive documentation and Engineering analysis submitted to council.  Without this, we would be still talking about it.

  • Roger Head - For the use of his business factory (BF Group in Dandenong) equipment, cranes and truck to build the framework over approx 6 weeks.

  • Paul Roberts - Monash Council (Sport and Recreation Officer) who steered us in the right direction "to achieve council approval".

  • Neil Garlick - For organising the galvanised steel and timber base for the main jumping mats.

  • And to all the committee members and parents that assisted in the move, attaching the colour bond sides and roofing

  • Lindsay look forward for new challenges with all that spare time he has now every week!!!

    13th Feb 2008 - Southern Metropoliton Region (SMR) T & F Championship
